Our SSVP members today organised the wonderful parish Jesse Tree donations for distribution later this week. A huge thank you to all who contributed - your support will benefit a great number of local families this Christmas.
On the 10th December 1967, Bishop Thomson formally opened St. Edward’s Church.
The parish was delighted to welcome Bishop Toal on 10 December 2017 to celebrate Mass marking the 50th Anniversary of the St. Edward’s Church. Father Desmond is very grateful to the many parishioners who have worked so hard in so many different ways to prepare the parish for this very special anniversary.
Come Holy Spirit,
Replace the tension within me with holy relaxation,
Replace the turbulence within me with a sacred calm,
Replace the anxiety within me with a quiet confidence,
Replace the fear within me with a strong faith,
Replace the bitterness within me with a gentle peace,
Replace the coldness within me with a loving warmth,
Replace the night within me with Your light.
Amen
If your child is in Primary 3 or 4 and you wish him/her to go forward for these Sacraments please collect an Enrolment form from the sacristy after Sunday Mass.
This form should be returned to Father Desmond personally at Sunday Mass when Father Desmond will arrange to meet with each individual family
If your child is not baptized and you wish him/her to go forward for the Sacraments, you MUST come and see Father Desmond at Sunday Mass as soon as possible in order to ensure your child is able to go forward for the Sacraments this academic year.
Many sincere thanks to all who prepared and participated in the lovely afternoon tea on Friday 29 September. The remarkable total of £680 was raised for MacMillan Cancer Care.
Below are some photos from a previous afternoon tea which, as you can see, was enjoyed very much by those in attendance.
On Wednesday 8 June, the Parish had a lovely visit to Carfin Grotto. Thank you to all at the Grotto for making us welcome, to St Edward's St Vincent de Paul for organising the day and to Father Desmond for a most uplifting and spiritual experience at all services.
The day began with a lovely breakfast. This was followed by a Prayer and Healing Service. There was time to walk round the grotto and visit the Shrines and Chapels before Mass in the afternoon. Our day ended with Evening Prayers.
If a parishioner is going into the Monklands Hospital and wishes to receive care from the Catholic Chaplaincy Team please either telephone the Monklands Chaplaincy on 01236712607 or inform the Nursing Staff on one’s arrival in the Ward.
St Edwards Brownies meet every Wednesday evening in the church hall from 6.30-8pm. All girls aged 7-10 years are welcome. Why not come along and have some fun? See you there!
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION EVENING
As a new initiative at St. Edward’s, parents will be asked to participate in a Baptismal Preparation evening prior to the actual Baptism of the baby.
These evenings will be held every month and details will be posted well in advance in the parish bulletin.
The Sacrament of Baptism is a very important event in the life of the baby and the family and these evenings are a way of ensuring that everybody is as well prepared as possible to enjoy this wonderful celebration.
The Preparation evening and the Baptism will be arranged during a meeting with Father Desmond. The best way to make contact with Father Desmond is after one of the Sunday Masses.
